You are probably hearing about “Cloud” medical speech recognition software. This works very similarly to the speech recognition used for dictating text messages and emails on your Android smartphone or iPhone.

There are a number of features that distinguish all cloud-based MSRT from computer-installed software (such as Dragon Medical Practice Edition)

Cloud-based Medical Speech Recognition Software:

  • Speech-to-text processing is done on the manufacturer’s “Cloud” servers rather than on your local computer
    • This greatly decreases the demands on your workstations and network
    • The speech engines used for this processing are specific for medical dictation
    • All speech and text are encrypted/protected during the entire process and the software is HIPAA-compliant
  • Self-installs for the user in 5 minutes. No support from your I.T. department required!
  • Available on any Windows computer that has an Internet connection.
  • Paid by monthly or yearly subscription rather than a large up-front cost.
  • Automatic, periodic, no-charge updates and improvements.
  • Technical & user support is included in the monthly fee.

Although the cloud-resident products from all manufacturers (Nuance, M*Modal, and others) appear to be good, Fusion Narrate® (powered by nVoq™) is the product that we recommend above all others. The advantages of Fusion Narrate are:

  • nVoq has offered cloud-resident MSRT since 2010. This is longer than any other company. This is their only product, so all development work is dedicated to this one product.
  • nVoq has partnered with Dolbey and Company. Dolbey has created an extremely rich front-end User Interface that uses the nVoq back-end text-to-speech engine.
    • These two products together comprise “Dolbey Fusion Narrate”.
    • Two excellent companies working together to provide the best medical speech recognition software product in the industry.

  • The monthly subscription fee is significantly less than that of its competitors.

  • There is no contract requirement beyond a one-year subscription.

  • With a subscription, a medical provider can use Dolbey Fusion Narrate on any machine at any location that has an Internet connection. Thus, if you purchase a Fusion Narrate subscription for use in your office, you can also use it (and your ONE voice profile) at home, at the hospital, at nursing homes, on vacation, etc. Competitors’ products may require you to purchase additional subscriptions if you wish to use their product outside of the licensed location (e.g. clinic), utilizing multiple non-synchronized profiles.
    • Your ONE Fusion Narrate personal voice profile (and included vocabulary, macros, speech data) is available to you on any Windows computer anywhere in the world! No more corrupted or non-synchronized profiles!

  • nVoq and Dolbey are completely dedicated to customer satisfaction, and is very responsive to customer feedback.

  • Some EHR manufacturers are integrating cloud MSRT into their EHR applications (e.g. Epic, eClinicalWorks, Cerner, NextGen, and others). They may lead you to believe that you must purchase both from them, usually at high cost. This is not true. Fusion Narrate can be used in any EHR, in any text window that you would normally type into.

  • Your Value-Added Reseller (i.e. Twin Cities EMR Consulting) can monitor your dictations in the background:
    • We can make corrections for misinterpreted words, which improves future recognition.
    • We can make suggestions for improved use of the product.
    • Problems such as poor audio quality can be easily diagnosed.
    • We can distribute your shortcuts (macros) and vocabulary to all provider profiles in your organization
    • Reports can be provided showing #words/lines dictated by each user & transcription accuracy during any time period

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER CLOUD-BASED MEDICAL SPEECH RECOGNITION SOFTWARE?

Dragon Medical Practice Edition-4 Sales were Discontinued by Nuance on 3/31/21

  • All support from Nuance was discontinued on 3/31/22
  • No further development is being done on DMPE-4…it is at end-of-life
  • You may not be able to install DMPE-4 on additional computers after 3-31-22, if Nuance shuts down their activation servers as they are threatening to do.
  • Updates to MS Windows may introduce incompatibilities with DMPE at any time. Nuance will not create any fixes if this occurs.
  • Why would you consider purchasing cloud software from a company that is going to disable your existing product that you paid so much for??
  • Nuance was recently purchased by Microsoft. <No comment>

We strongly recommend that you transition from Dragon Medical to Dolbey Fusion Narrate As Soon As Possible.

We would be delighted to chat with you regarding any questions that you may have.
